Public Records Requests
To review Milwaukee Area Technical College’s official policy on public and other records, you can search our policies page, or view the pdf file.
The Office of the General Counsel has been designated as the legal custodian of MATC’s public records. To submit a public records request, please send an email with the request to publicrecords@matc.edu. MATC will review your request as soon as practicable and without delay.
When making a public records request, please consider the following guidelines:
- Make sure the records requested are as specific as possible. This will cut down on the amount of time it will take for MATC to process the request and may eliminate any associated fees.
- Include dates or date ranges in the request if applicable.
- If seeking email records, include keywords and first and last names in the request.
Please note that Public Records Law does not require that MATC provide “information” of a descriptive, explanatory, or informative nature. The law permits access to records, as defined by Wis. Stat. 19.32(2) and does not require a public entity to create a record to respond to a request, including a request for information.
Pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 19.35(3)(f) a location fee will be charged after costs exceed $50.00. Duplicating fees for responsive records are charged at a rate of $0.15 per page. Mailing and shipping costs are also charged when applicable. Please be aware that, pursuant to Wis. Stat. 19.35 (3)(f), MATC may require prepayment for records requests if the total exceeds $5.00. MATC will provide the requester with a reasonable estimate of application fees if the total is estimated to exceed $5.00. The requester may indicate then whether they want access to the physical records or copies of the records. Upon the requester’s approval and payment (if required) of the associated fees, MATC will initiate a search for the records.
In some instances, MATC’s records custodian may need to clarify the requester’s records request and will reach out to the requester as necessary. In the event that MATC declines to produce the requested records for any reason, the requester will be notified of the denial in writing and notified of their rights.
