Dr. Myra J. George Memorial Scholarship Fund

Myra George

Family and friends of Dr. Myra J. George have established this scholarship fund to honor and remember her extraordinary life and support future students in her honor.

Myra Jewel George lived a life defined by brilliance, integrity and generosity. Beginning her higher education at 16, she earned a doctorate and dedicated herself to empowering others through teaching and leadership. She inspired students to explore literature, expand their minds and believe in their potential. A passionate advocate for educational access, Myra supported first-generation college students, created opportunities for incarcerated individuals and championed community programs throughout her career. She contributed her expertise at Marquette University, Milwaukee Area Technical College and most recently the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She passed away December 8, 2024.

For more than 22 years, Myra had a tremendous impact on MATC, where she served as faculty in English, co-chair to the Higher Learning Commission Accreditation team, coordinator and chair of the Social Justice Initiative and member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force.

Amid her many achievements, she remained devoted to loved ones — nurturing dreams, sharing laughter and encouraging lives of purpose and joy. Her legacy endures through this MATC scholarship established to honor her literary contributions and the countless lives she touched. May her memory inspire us to support others as we pursue learning, compassion and life’s unseen horizons with courage and grace.
