Building Milwaukee’s Workforce: Support the $15 Million Checota Matching Challenge
Help the MATC Foundation reach a historic $15 million fundraising goal through a powerful 2-for-1 matching challenge with the Second Ellen and Joe Checota MATC Scholarship Program.
Longtime Milwaukee residents Ellen and Joe Checota have committed up to $5 million to fast-track students in technical and trade programs into the workforce. They have challenged the community and the college to match their generosity. Join us and be part of transforming lives.

Proven Success: 1,674 Students Served Since 2022
The Checotas launched their first matching challenge in August 2022, and the results have been life-changing. The Ellen and Joe Checota MATC Scholarship Program successfully raised $7.5 million, making higher education a reality for over a thousand students.
This Checota MATC Scholarship Program provides more than just tuition. It offers comprehensive financial support for low-income students in short-term programs by supporting tuition and fees, books and technical equipment, and for essential needs (child care, transportation and food assistance).
By removing these financial barriers, Checota scholars can focus entirely on their studies. This allows them to graduate in 18 months or less, entering the Milwaukee workforce sooner.
How the 2-for-1 Matching Challenge Works
Building on that success, our new goal is the largest in MATC history. For every $500,000 raised by the MATC Foundation, the college’s philanthropic partner, the Checotas and MATC will each contribute an equal amount.
- Your Impact: Every dollar you donate effectively triples in value.
- The Goal: A $15 million fund to support high-demand technical careers.
- The Result: Economic mobility for MATC students and a more robust, skilled workforce for Milwaukee’s regional economy.
Let’s rise to the challenge together. Your contribution helps turn potential into professional success. To make a donation, call 414-297-8514 or email finnvr@matc.edu.
