Multicultural Student Services, Community Engagement and Men of Color

Vision: MATC will be a local and national leader in graduating successful multicultural students who transform our school and our communities.

We are dedicated to serving multicultural students through recruitment and retention services.  The department promotes diversity and multicultural understanding at MATC and is responsible for implementing programs for multicultural student access and retention.

Our staff members are advocates for current and prospective multicultural and limited English proficient students.  The staff is concerned with helping students resolve educational, vocational, financial, and personal needs to help them successfully complete their program of study and graduate. The staff works with multicultural students on admissions, registration, class scheduling, financial aid issues and more.

More Information

African-American Student Services Office

African-American students comprise the largest minority group in the college. The African-American Office has two African-American Student Services Specialists. They work to make the college experience for black students positive. Case-management plays an important role in tracking the progress of minority students and in their retention. The Specialists help students apply for the Minority Retention Grant.

Also, the African-American Office participates in cultural events throughout the school year such as Black History Month celebrations and culturally diverse activities with other ethnic groups.

In addition, the Minority Peer Mentoring program works out of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. This is a student service program that pairs new college students with successful students who are in their programs, have good grade-point averages, and are close to graduation. The staff works to make students feel comfortable and be successful.
