Apprentices earning Credit for Prior Learning & Experience (CPLE)

Apprenticeship Programs

Students can earn up to 39 credits by turning in their completed Apprenticeship Certificates from DWD either earned through a WTCS or non-WTCS training center. Please see the eligibility criteria and steps below

  1.  Completed Apprenticeship Certificates from DWD earned through WTCS:
    • a. Steps for Students:
      • Contact and Interview with Dave Stuart, Director of Apprenticeship (stuartd@matc.edu). The Director will refer the student to their designated Pathway Advisor for program & CPLE assistance
      • Provide proof of journeyman status such as State of Wisconsin certificate from DWD
    • b. Additional Information
      • The WTCS Formula is used to convert apprentice hours to credits by using the 216 hours:1 credit ratio
      • There is no CPLE fee to convert the apprenticeship training for up to 39 credits
      • Curriculum requirements are subject to change. A minimum of 25% of technical program credits must be earned at MATC. Prerequisites might be required
      • Additional credits to earn an Associate's Degree’s coursework will be related to the occupation. Course selection is to be done in conjunction with a designated Academic Advisor

TURN YOUR COMPLETED APPRENTICESHIP CERTIFICATE FROM DWD into an Individualized Technical Studies: Associate Degree (NON-WTCS ONLY)

  1. Completed Apprenticeship Certificates from DWD earned through non-WTCS training centers:
    • a. Steps for Students
      • Contact and Interview with Dave Stuart, Director of Apprenticeship (stuartd@matc.edu). The Director will refer the student to their designated Pathway Advisor for program & CPLE assistance
      • Provide proof of related instruction from the training center where related instruction was completed
      • Provide proof of journeyman status such as State of Wisconsin certificate from DWD
      • Pay the CPLE fee for apprenticeship credits based on eligibility:
        • 1 year/ 1800 hour apprenticeship = 10 credits = $ 90 non WTCS fee
        • 2 year/ 3600 hour apprenticeship = 20 credits = $ 180 non WTCS fee
        • 3 year/ 5400 hour apprenticeship = 30 credits = $270 non WTCS fee
        • 4+ year/ 7200+ hour apprenticeship = 39 credits = $ 360 non WTCS fee
