Through the US Department of Education’s Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, institutions of higher education received federal funds to provide emergency financial aid grants to students experiencing pandemic-related disruption, and to aid with institutional costs associated with the significant changes made to the delivery of instruction due to COVID-19.

MATC’s total student emergency aid allocation through HEERF is $27,017,901. MATC signed and returned to the US Department of Education a certification and agreement with assurances that the institution intends to use applicable designated funding received to provide emergency financial aid grants to students. MATC received the following federal allocations for emergency financial aid grants to students:

• $4,252,687 on April 22, 2020 (CARES)
• $4,252,687 on April 20, 2021 (CRRSAA)
• $18,512,527 on May 13, 2021 (ARP)

In addition to the $27,017,901 allocated for student emergency assistance by the US Department of Education, MATC decided to internally allocate an additional $2,126,313 received under CARES to increase available student emergency assistance. MATC also decided to internally allocate an additional $6,097,313 received under CRRSAA for student emergency assistance.

Through the CARES Act, MATC received $4,252,687 for Student Emergency Financial Aid Grants. MATC also allocated an additional $626,313 from the College’s institutional portion of CARES Act funding to provide student emergency financial aid.

An estimated 10,260 Title IV eligible students were identified as eligible to receive assistance. MATC used the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Department of Education Guidelines for Emergency Financial Aid Grants under the CARES Act to determine eligibility for Title IV and CARES Act funding.

To support students in continuing their education, MATC initially set a maximum grant of $500 to ensure all eligible students could receive grant funds. This maximum grant was increased to $1,000 on May 20, 2020 to better assist students with emergency needs related to COVID-19. MATC provided an additional $500 grant for eligible students who enrolled for Summer 2020, and a final $500 grant for those enrolled for Fall 2020, on a first-come, first-served basis, resulting in maximum grants per eligible student of up to $2,000. Eligible students new to MATC in Fall 2020 received $500. 100% of the assistance was provided by federal funds.

As of September 30, 2020, MATC has distributed the full $4,252,687 Student Emergency Financial Aid Grants allocated by the CARES Act to 5,356 students.

Through the CARES Act, MATC received $4,252,686 for institutional needs related to COVID-19. This amount is less than half of MATC’s total allocated CARES Act funding. As of June 30, 2021, MATC has expended the full $4,252,686 Institutional Portion allocated by the CARES Act.
