21st Century Classroom

The landscape of higher education is rapidly transforming. In order to stay relevant, competitive, and to meet 21st Century student expectations, there is a tremendous need for faculty to consistently develop within the profession. There is a great demand for faculty who have the skills to teach in online, virtual, hybrid, blended and Hyflex modalities, and for faculty who can skillfully incorporate technology into Face-to-Face (F2F) classrooms. MATC and the Center for Teaching Excellence are committed to helping our faculty adapt to these contemporary approaches to teaching and learning.

Faculty Learning Communities

A Faculty Learning Community (FLC) is designed to create a space of faculty collaboration, discourse, innovation, and knowledge sharing. An FLC is created when a small group of faculty members explore relevant, current, and timely topics related to teaching and learning. Faculty in FLCs define a time period in which to engage with each other (a semester, an academic year, etc.) and meet throughout the duration. Faculty in FLCs engage their intellectual curiosity, explore innovative educational practices, and review relevant and current research relating to topics of teaching and learning. Faculty who participate in FLCs often feel validated in their instructional practices, have an increased sense of community and support, and feel their contributions to their peers and the college are valued.

Sabbatical Leave

The purpose of sabbatical leave is to provide an opportunity for employees to extend their professional activities, growth, and development in support of MATC's mission, vision, and values, as well as its strategic goals. The sabbatical program is intended to strengthen the faculty, staff, and administration of the College by providing time for scholarship, professional development, or other relevant work. Each sabbatical leave has a direct benefit for MATC.
