Correctional Education Second Chance Pell Program Initiative (SCP): This initiative of the U.S. Department of Education provides up to 12,000 incarcerated students in over 28 states with the opportunity to obtain postsecondary education and training in both academic and career - technical programs. These courses are provided by over 67 different colleges and universities, which mostly consist of both community and technical colleges in more than 100 state and federal prisons.
Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) was chosen as one of the 67 colleges from across the nation to participate in the SCP Pilot Initiative. An additional 67 colleges and universities were granted the opportunity to participate in the SCP initiative beginning in the spring of 2020.
Second Chance Program students will need to complete the FAFSA and apply for Pell grants. Qualified students are able to use Pell grants to pay for the tution, fees, and books required by the student's education program.
The post-secondary education and career training programs will prepare the SCP for in-demand careers. Successful graduates become eligible for skilled jobs and a family-supporting wage.
From Fall 2017 - present, distance learning and face-to-face courses and programs are offered in the following 15 Wisconsin Department of Corrections (WIDOC) adult institutions: Columbia, Felmer Chaney, Fox Lake, Green Bay, Jackson, Kettle Moraine, Marshall Sherrar, New Lisbon, Oak Hill, Prairie Du Chien, Racine Correctional, Robert E. Ellsworth, Red Granite, Stanley, and Waupun.
MATC's Correctional Education program currently offers distance learning courses leading to the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Sciences (AS), Individualized Technical Studies, and Technical Studies JourneyWorker Apprentice degree programs for WIDOC students.

Graduates from these schools have a dedicated academic advisor that supports their on-boarding to MATC as well as their progression "to and through" college.
College Possible College Possible is among the largest nonprofit college access and success organizations in the U.S. We believe that by empowering students to access higher education and thrive through college in the face of broader systemic challenges, we can truly change the world.
The college degree divide is influenced by race and income, not by talent or interest. We provide a results-driven program that helps students from diverse backgrounds get into college and persist through graduation. This programming is supported by recruiting, training and motivating recent college graduates who serve through AmeriCorps as near-peer coaches.
