THE MATC PROMISE FOR ADULTS

  • Eligible students can receive free tuition after other financial aid grants and scholarships are applied.  Programs covered by the Adult Promise can be found here: View the list of eligible programs (link).
  • New for Spring 2025:
    • Technical diploma students can receive up to 4 semesters of Promise support (if tuition charges remain after other financial aid is applied).
    • Associate degree students can receive up to 7 semesters of Promise support (if tuition charges remain after other financial aid is applied)
  • Note: The cost of books, program fees, and equipment are not covered by Promise. 
  • Students receive support to stay on track to graduate and connect to a career
  • Get connected to an in-demand career in as little as one to two years — or start a four-year degree
  • Eligible students can continue on to a bachelor's degree through a total of 40+ four-year partner colleges and universities.

To participate you must:

☑ MEET ACADEMIC AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS. ELIGIBLE STUDENTS:

  • Are 24 years or older as of December 31, 2024 or are an independent student according to FAFSA and live in the MATC district (all of Milwaukee County, most all of Ozaukee County and small parts of Washington and Waukesha counties; see this map of Wisconsin technical college districts
  • Live in a low-income household (200% of federal poverty guidelines or less) based on federal student aid application
  • Have already earned at least six college credits but have not earned an associate or bachelor’s degree
  • Have last attended any college in December 2023 or earlier

  • Apply to MATC at matc.edu/apply. Note: MATC now charges a $2 application processing fee. 
    Need waiver for the application fee? Please contact MATC Admissions. You’ll get your MATC student ID number when you’re done!
  • Complete a Promise interest form — and use your new student ID number
  • Apply for Financial Aid at fafsa.gov
    • Complete the 2024-25 FAFSA® 
  • Provide Your Official High School and College Transcripts

Enroll in at least nine college-level credits linked to a top 50 in-demand career

 

How do I stay in the program?

  • Enroll in at least nine credits each Fall and Spring semester
  • Earn at least a 2.0 semester GPA and complete 67% of credits attempted in the semester
  • Complete a FAFSA® annually
  • Continue to meet income requirements

MATC PROMISE - APPEALS

If you were not accepted into the Promise or disqualified after starting the program and believe this was in error, MATC offers an appeals process. To streamline the process, please provide detailed answers to the questions when you can. Please note that we may ask for records that confirm information you provide. These appeals are reviewed regularly by the college.
