Start College Now

The Start College Now program provides greater learning opportunities for qualified high school juniors and seniors. If you wish to begin college early, or want to prepare to enter the workforce immediately after high school graduation, you may be interested in Start College Now. Credits earned can be applied toward a degree at MATC or many other colleges.

This program allows students the opportunity to take post-secondary (college courses) at MATC during the regular academic year. If the high school board determines there is not a comparable class offered at the school, there is no cost to the student, and students will receive dual credit upon successful completion of the class.  Please note that school district policies may vary.

Who is eligible for Start College Now? The Start College Now program is available to public high school students in grades 11 and 12 who meet the following requirements:

  • Have completed the 10th grade
  • Are in good academic standing and have no disciplinary/enrollment issues
  • Apply to their local school board by March 1 for the fall semester and October 1 for the spring semester.

How do I apply to participate in Start College Now?

  1. Meet with your high school counselor to discuss your career plans and determine if enrolling in college courses through the Start College Now program is right for you. MATC Dual Enrollment Specialists are available to discuss course options before submitting your Start College Now application.  We encourage students to list alternate courses on their application.
  2.  Submit Start College Now application (Link to fillable PDF) to your high school by March 1st (fall classes) and October 1st (spring classes).
  3.  If approved by your school district, forward your approved Start College Now application to dualcredit@matc.edu
  4.  An MATC Dual Enrollment Specialist will contact you via email to confirm receipt of your application, discuss course scheduling, and help you apply directly to MATC.  MATC registration typically opens in November for spring classes and April for fall classes.
  5.  If you meet application deadlines and course prerequisites, a Dual Enrollment Specialist will enroll you in your selected courses (space permitting) during open registration.  Your Specialist will email you a copy of your schedule and the timeline for orientation.

WHAT CLASS ARE AVAILABLE?

You will find many choices available online and at all four MATC campuses - Downtown Milwaukee, Mequon, Oak Creek, and West Allis.  Any Associate Degree, Technical Diploma and Certificate courses may be taken through Start College Now, as long as all prerequisite, corequisite, program and petition requirements are met. See list of possible classes for high school students to take through Start College Now linked here.

  • Please note there are some MATC programs that require all students to commit to the full-day schedule of the program, and therefore it is NOT possible to enroll in just one or two classes in that subject area through Start College Now. Those programs are listed in the second tab of the spreadsheet here.
