Institutional Learning Outcomes
Institutional learning outcomes are known as Career Essentials. They represent goals for the skills, knowledge, habits and attitudes all students will learn and demonstrate by graduation, workforce entry or transfer. Program faculty identify courses that introduce, practice and assess Career Essentials and create assignments that cultivate development and reinforcement of Career Essentials in each class. Advisors for clubs and organizations also use Career Essentials to connect cocurricular activities to academic and workplace success.
All programs teach and assess at least three Career Essentials:
- Effective Communication in Writing
- Professionalism
- Effective Problem-Solving
All associate degree programs also teach and assess at least one more Career Essential, and technical diploma programs may choose to add them as well:
- Global Awareness
- Mathematical Competency
- Effective Communication through Speaking and Listening
- Technology Competency
Faculty may access Career Essentials assessment data for each semester via myMATC.
